Candles are absolutely wonderful and there is nothing more romantic or soothing than relaxing in a room by candlelight. However, we feel that certain safety guides should be given and many are simply common sense but it may be an idea just to take a couple of minutes to go through them and make sure you are being safe! |

| GENERAL | Always check any labels and warnings that come with the candle or candle holder Use a suitable non-flammable holder Ensure the candle is standing upright in the holder before lighting Always place candle or candle holders on a surface that will not get damaged by heat Do not move candles whilst still lit or when wax is still liquid Never leave a burning candle unattended Remove all packaging before use Burn out of reach of children and pets Extinguish candles with a candle snuffer. Do not blow them out Never use water to extinguish a candle Allow headroom above the candle for heat to disperse Ensure candles are burned away from flammable items Candles should be burned away from other sources of heat, such as televisions and direct sunlight Candles should always be burned in an area free from draughts Always make sure the wick is trimmed to 1/2inch (1cm) before lighting or relighting If the candle starts to smoke, extinguish it and trim the wick as above |

| PILLAR CANDLES |
Candles with a diameter of over 2inch (5cm) should be burned on a spiked holder or a flat dish Pillar candles over 2.5inch (6cm) shold be burned for at least 4 hours at a time Allow wax to solidify before relighting Extinguish candle before flame reaches within 1inch (2cm) of the holder |

| TEALIGHTS | Tealights are ideal for lanterns or holders which have holes in them, as the tealight case will hold the wax as it melts Place tealight holders on a surface that will not be damaged by heat Do not burn on a television or any other warm place Any recepticle which has a tealight burning in it will become extremely hot and must be left to cool before trying to move or pick up |
